A group of top education officials says the USA’s “economic, democratic and social health” could worsen if more Americans don’t earn a college degree.

The Commission on Access, Admissions and Success in Higher Education wants to raise the percentage of young workers who earn a degree from 40 percent to 55 percent by 2025, according to a news release.

Once second in the world in the number of 25- to 54-year-olds with degrees, the U.S. now ranks 11th.
