Doctoral program first at Pine Bluff

Friday Sep 4, 2009 14:01:53 EDT

A vote is set for Sept. 4 on plans by the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff to offer its first doctoral program. University of Arkansas System spokesman Ben Beaumont says the university’s Board of Trustees is expected to vote then on whether to approve UAPB’s proposed aquaculture and fisheries doctorate program.

UAPB will then need approval from both the Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Aquaculture and fisheries department chair Carole Engle says if the program is approved, UAPB will be only the second university in the United States with a specific doctorate program in aquaculture and fisheries.
