As students prepared to return to classrooms, university and health officials in Oklahoma prepared for the possible spread of the H1N1 virus, or swine flu. Health officials say the swine flu has disproportionately targeted teenagers and young adults and that schools are likely to experience outbreaks.

The campus health center at Oklahoma State University has a stockpile of supplies, and health care workers are prepared to brief students on how to avoid and respond to swine flu. State epidemiologist Dr. Kristy Bradley said universities and colleges should work with local health officials to develop an acceptable response in case of an outbreak.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control recommend that people in a campus environment who begin to experience swine flu symptoms isolate themselves for seven days.
