Microsoft announced March 8 that it is expanding its free technology training initiative, Elevate America, to include a special two-year program just for veterans and their spouses.
The Elevate America’s Veterans Initiative will donate $2 million and up to $6 million in software to a coalition of nonprofit organizations such as veterans service organizations, colleges and work force groups with interest in training, placement and hiring of veterans. Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America was the first group to join the coalition, according to a March news release.
As with Microsoft’s state programs, Elevate America’s Veterans Initiative will include vouchers for online technology training and certification.
Details of the program, including the other nonprofits that will be involved, should be in place by early summer.
